Star Wars Celebration Book Reveals: Manga Mania and More!
All the Star Wars book news from the Lucasfilm Publishing panels at Star Wars Celebration Japan.
Star Wars Celebration Japan is off to a great start, especially on the publishing front (that’s why you’re all really here, I know). It’s a little too far and too high of a price point for me this year, but you can still count on me for some a galaxy far, far away reading news! (I’ll be asleep when this goes up, but brownie points to the first person who opens and enjoys!)
Two Lucasfilm publishing panels just wrapped up this afternoon Japan time, and I think you’re going to love what we’ve learned. Some of this we already knew about (such as some of the interior spreads for upcoming comics and the like). But some of it is brand-new! So let’s tackle some of the announcements you’ve not heard about yet, starting with some very exciting manga.
The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope Manga
Coming from Dark Horse Comics in 2026, The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope — The Manga (written and Illustrated by Hisao Tamaki) will spotlight the creator’s original work in a collectible two-volume set. For the first time ever, the publisher will be launching a Kickstarter campaign, through which readers can receive an exclusive edition of the manga.
Star Wars: THRAWN and Jedi: Fallen Order Adaptions
Everyone’s favorite Chiss (and future Grand Admiral) is getting his own manga adaption, written and illustrated by Man Tsang. And if you’ve been waiting to see Cal Kestis and crew in manga art form, that’s on the way too thanks to Mangado.
Next up are the Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away panel reveals. Previous of upcoming comics and books were also discussed too, and if you weren’t already excited (and also dreading) Trials of the Jedi … you will be now!
Star Wars: The High Republic – The Beacon
Prepare for the end of The High Republic with Cavan Scott’s Star Wars: The High Republic: Fear the Jedi – The Finale #1: Beacon (art by Marika Cresta, cover art by Phil Noto) from Marvel Comics.
The Art of Star Wars: Andor (The Complete Series)
“Art of” books are always a treasure, and Andor getting one after its full series airs just feels right. The Art of Star Wars: Andor (The Complete Series) by Phil Szostak (published by Abrams) is coming in March 2026. Plenty of time to digest the series and rewatch Rogue One a dozen times before the interior imagery in these pages hurts and astounds us all over again.
Industrial Light & Magic: 50 Years of Innovation
Industrial Light & Magic: 50 Years of Innovation takes fans on a decade-by-decade journey through ILM’s fascinating and magnificent history. Written by Ian Failes and published also by Abrams, the book will also look at the potential evolution of visual effects over the next 50 years.
Though I wasn’t able to attend these panels in person, rest assured I am many miles away feeling just as excited as the rest of you for all we learned in these panels — and all the great Star Wars books of all shapes and sizes yet to come.
