It's Lit: New Year, New Show, New Star Wars Reading Resolutions
A new way to support Now This Is Lit in 2024.
Somehow, 2024 is no longer upon us. It has arrived.
Last year was an absolutely wild year for both Star Wars books and the podcast. Some of the most powerful stories published over the last decade came out in 2023, and if that’s any indication of what’s in store for us over the next 12 months, I say bring it on.
While not everyone is into the idea of setting resolutions for the new year, I can’t start one without them. I am personally driven by having things to work toward — and as time has gone on, more and more of my resolutions have shifted to the “just for fun” category. Life is more than professional achievements (though of course there are still a few of those).
With the start of a new year comes new goals as well as a new era for Now This Is Lit. I take this endeavor very seriously (when it’s warranted), and that means I want to reach some milestones. That may require a little extra help from all of you.
A New Era For Now This Is Lit
Making an independent podcast and newsletter about Star Wars books has been a dream of mine for a long time, and the fact that I get to do it every week is both a luxury and a blessing.
I’m beyond grateful for the continued support of listeners and subscribers — you are the reason the show still exists. There are a lot of Star Wars podcasts, and I’m just one person who loves them. You continue to show up and make all this hard work worth it, and I wanted to find a way to thank you for that.
The thing is … it does take a lot of time and resources to run Now This Is Lit. I want the show to be bigger and better. I want it to reach, help, and entertain as many people as possible. If you know anything about journalism, you know it’s hard to be in this industry. There are so many things I want for this show. I’m going to need a little more support — of the financial variety — in order for the show to reach its full potential.
There is a brand-new way you can support Now This Is Lit — with the added benefit of a new additional show AND a logo sticker! (And many more benefits to be announced.)
For just $1 a month, you can join the Now This Is Lit Patreon community for access to a new monthly show (we’re still working on a name for it), a very cool sticker, and tons of other perks we’re still putting together.
The main show will always be free, as will this newsletter. Supporting my work with your money will always be optional. There will just be some nice incentives available for those that do moving forward.
New Star Wars Reading Resolutions
Last year, I invited my now-producer Davor onto the show to set some personal goals for our Star Wars reading. We loved it so much that we decided to do it again for 2024.
What’s a Star Wars reading resolution? It’s any Star Wars reading milestone you want to hit by the end of the year. It doesn’t have to be impressive or even difficult. Sometimes, we want to read more, but don’t have the motivation to do it. Consider this your motivation!
Here are the resolutions I set for 2024 to give you an idea of what one for you might look like:
Catch up on The High Republic comics
Finish the New Jedi Order series
Keep up with new Star Wars comics
Finish the Doctor Aphra (2020) series
I’m already making headway on a lot of these, and I would love if you could share some of your Star Wars reading resolutions for the year as well. It could be as simple as rereading your favorite book, or finally getting around to that book everyone keeps begging you to make time for.
Always remember: Reading isn’t homework, it’s fun! But do you know what’s also fun? A challenge.
If you missed our episode on this topic and you’re interested in hearing my producer’s resolutions as well, listen below.
